Inaugural NAW Creative Writing Fair 2012Monday, 15 October 2012
On October 12 the National Academy of Writing invited leading UK providers of writing services to gather at the Free Word Centre. The National Academy of Writing was joined by UEA MA, Faber Academy, Arvon Foundation, UEA-Guardian Masterclasses, The Literary Consultancy, Adventures in Fiction, Annette Green Authors’ Agency and Spread the Word for a hall-full of stalls and an afternoon of lively panel discussion.
Interested writers moved around the foyer of the Free Word chatting directly with course directors and tutors, finding out which of the many different possibilities might suit them best. It might have been a manuscript assessment or a residential five days in Devon, one-to-one mentoring or group bonding over workshops. It might even have been the single 2013 course being offered by NAW.
In the auditorium a series of three panel discussions were held to complement the information on offer in the hall. The audience was fortunate to hear from a range of distinguished speakers including Andrew Cowan (Director of CreativeWriting at the University of East Anglia), Becky Fincham (Head of Faber Academy), Ruth Borthwick (Chief Executive of Arvon), John Saddler reader for The Literary Consultancy), Marion Urch (Director of Adventures in Fiction), David Smith (partner of Annette Greene Authors’ Agency) Paul Sherreard (Programme Manager for Spread the Word) and Jon Cook (Co-Director of UEA-Guardian Masterclasses).
A full list of contributors and the title of each discussion is available here.
Many thanks to everyone who attended the Fair. The winners of the raffle for a free NAW Masterclass (public edit) will be announced shortly.
